Founded in 1971, the Marshall County Historical Society was created by local history enthusiasts dedicated to preserving the unique past of our community. The Society’s most significant accomplishment came in 1980 when, after the county decided to build a new courthouse, the Historical Society successfully advocated for the preservation of the historic 1891 courthouse. The building, once slated for demolition, was deeded to the Society in 1979 and has since been maintained through donations, grants, and a trust fund established by visionaries who understood its historical significance.
The courthouse now serves as the home of the Marshall County Historical Society’s museum and research library, where visitors can explore artifacts, documents, and stories from our county’s past. With over 20 display rooms and a variety of community events, the Society continues to offer a place for both learning and reflection, keeping Marshall County’s history alive for future generations.
